Stop afraid to do what you want
Our dreams are rarely realized, because we are afraid to try, take risks and experiment. Entrepreneur Timothy Ferris advises to ask himself a few questions. The answers to them will help to overcome indecision and fear.
Or not do? Try or not try? Most people do not do and do not try. Uncertainty and fear of failure outweigh the desire to achieve success and be happy. For many years I set goals, promised myself to find my way, but nothing happened, because I was frightened and uncertain, like many in this world.
Time passed, I made mistakes, suffered failures, but then created a checklist that makes the decision-making process much easier. If you are afraid to make bold decisions, it will become an antidote for you. Try not to think about the question for more than two minutes and write down your answers.
1. Imagine the most terrible option
What doubts appear when you think about the changes that you can or should make? Imagine them in the smallest details. Will it be the end of the world? How will they affect your life on a scale from 1 to 10? Will this influence be temporary, long -term or constant?
2. What steps can you take in case of failure?
You took a chance, but did not get what you dreamed about. Think about how you can take control.
3. What results or advantages can you get if a possible script is implemented?
To date, you have already determined the most terrible scenario. Now think about positive results, both internal (gaining confidence, increasing self -esteem), and external. How significant will
their impact on your life be (from 1 to 10)? How likely a positive scenario of the development of events is? Find out if someone did something like that before.
4. If you are fired from work today, what you will do to avoid financial difficulties?
Imagine what you will do and return to questions 1-3. Ask yourself the question: how quickly I can return to my previous career, if I quit my job now to try to do what I dream about?
5. What actions do you postpone due to fear?
We are usually most afraid to do what is most important now. Often we do not dare to an important call and can not agree on a meeting, because we do not know what will come of it. Determine the worst script, accept it and take the first step. You may be surprised, but a person’s success is measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations that he decided on.
Promise yourself to regularly do something that you are afraid. I got this habit when I tried to contact famous people to get advice from them.
6. What are the physical, emotional and financial losses from the fact that you put off your actions for later?
It is unfair to think only about the negative consequences of actions. It is also necessary to evaluate the possible results of their inaction. If you do not do what inspires you now, what will happen to you in a year, five or ten years? Are you ready to continue to live as before, for many years? Imagine yourself in the future and evaluate how likely it is that you will see a person disappointed in life, bitterly regretting that he did not do what was (from 1 to 10). It is better to take a chance and lose than to regret an unused chance all your life.
7. What are you waiting for?
If you cannot clearly answer this question, but use excuses like “right time”, you are simply afraid, like most people in this world. Evaluate the price of inaction, realize that almost all mistakes can be corrected, and educate in yourself the habit of successful people: in any situation, act, and do not expect better times.
